It’s always a pleasure to dialogue with sagacious people, but when it comes to exchanging notes on music, nothing can beat a cavernous tête-à-tête with any Y101 on-air personality!
And yesterday, I had the opportunity to revel in a rap session with none other than our contemporary hits aficionado Chad the Stud, aka on-air playboy!
Schmoozing about the show, I came to discover that the title Midday Vibe evolved from Midday Drive primarily to distinguish it from the Afternoon Drive in varying the term drive to vibe. Vibe describes the distinct emotional aura and the energy which the midday DJ radiates through his vibrant tracks, in which case is Chad’s forte. And as the day transitions from the morning to the afternoon, it elevates it to an appetite for lunch with good vibrations. The concept was hypothesized by Mike Solo and Jeanne Louise inaugurated it over a year ago. Undeniably, an amazing innovation!
But what’s really in store for us on the Midday Vibe are the current fresh tracks that The Stud meticulously prepares before each show. Most new songs debut during this stretch and truth being told, Chad does play the hottest hits. “I always bug Marko to release those newbies and save the true blue Y101 songs from the 90s and early 2000s for Friday Gold Rush – I only play them on the top of the hour” he reveals.
Being a programmer himself, he said that a playlist should be followed to a tee. I heard he was rooting for no 80s tracks during the weekdays and that’s exactly what he obtained from the Rhythm Crew ballots! He believes that these should be reserved for Fridays.
So, tapping a bit on his Friday Midday Vibe, Chad mentioned that he maximizes his golds and never repeats a song for at least a month. “I always have a playlist; there’s so much good music that has been forgotten!” so there you have it – a remarkable DJ, a superb programmer, and an illustrious person!
In closing, he said “Imagine radio in Cebu without Y101 – the Cebuanos would have been deprived of a classy, trendsetting lifestyle and have had a different musical palate.” So from Chad The Stud’s point of view and mine, of course, keep it locked into the Midday Vibe from 10 AM – 2 PM Mondays through Fridays and don’t get left behind. “It’s only here at Y101 Always First that you’ll catch cutting-edge winners!”
