With the departure of artists David Bowie and now, Glenn Frey, the music world has been deeply saddened by the hollowness of their loss in these last few days.

Yet we live on just the way they would have wanted it, giving you the ultimate contemporary hits on the Midday Vibe with Chad the Stud on board.

And after the drums and beats of the Sinulog festivities, it’s back to regular business and programming with a tad bit of a hangover from the celebrations, both the gaiety of the parties and the salutations of the lives of these legendary musicians.

“Didn’t Natalie Cole just pass away a couple of weeks back as well?” asked Chad when we were exchanging notes this afternoon after his board work. Unforgettable was the title of that 1951 Nat King Cole track which was remixed to create a father and daughter hit winning three Grammy Awards in 1992 and unforgettable it remains as she is remembered as the successor to her father’s legacy.

Unfortunately, they come in threes or so it seems to me – first, Cole on New Year’s Eve at age 65, then Bowie last January 10 at 69 and today Glenn Frey at 67. How unreal is this? Eerie 60s appear to be the unlucky number!

“I specially remember Bowie as the pioneer of glam, influencing so many artists – he was so 80s” said Chad as he went on to fond memories of Frey “and for those of us who grew up in the 80s, You Belong to the City equated to Miami Vice.”

Going back to normal schedule after Sinulog was somewhat a relief for The Stud although he claimed he didn’t party on Sunday because a few years back, he recalled a terrifying experiencing hiding under a trailer to avoid a stampede among the rowdy crowd. “Besides, I was on board” he continued almost as if luck would have it!

Bizarre as this may sound, we’re all relieved from the holidays, carousing and what-nots as “we can finally start with our diets, for one” since here in Cebu, in effect, it is a continuous, prolonged season to be jolly. Christmas starts in December and runs all the way to the Sinulog festival, so yes, it’s lechon galore, parties galore, drinking galore and reunions with friends, family and visitors galore!

As for his Sinulog board-work, Chad was amazed at the frequent calls from all over the city requesting songs, greetings and dedications as they were listening to Y101 from countless locations around the fiesta scene. “There were calls from people working too as they listened to us through our live feed” he added.

In closing, I asked Chad The Stud what his pick of the week was – the collabo All My Friends by the British electronic duo Snakehips Featuring Tinashe & Chance The Rapper was definitely his winning stallion, so check out this track everyone! “I just like the beat and the way it sounds” says our midday DJ, nothing amazing from our on-air playboy!

And the show goes on: Midday Vibe runs from 10 AM – 2 PM Mondays through Fridays so don’t miss it for anything. As The Stud would say: “It’s only here at Y101 Always First that you’ll catch cutting-edge winners!”
