avril lavigne 2017

Back in 2003, Avril Lavigne dominated Canada’s major music awards including winning four awards at the Juno’s.

Avril Lavigne first appeared on the radio in 2002, boasting an addictive debut single; the spunky pop/rock anthem, “Complicated”. Lavigne came out as a skatepunk image that purposely clashed with the polished glamour of mainstream pop at the time (Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, Atomic Kitten, etc.)

Lavigne, who was 17 in 2002, quickly rose to teen idol status, selling several million copies of her debut album, Let Go (the best-selling album by a female artist that year). She also inspired a genuine fashion craze with her penchant for tank tops and neckties and dark eyeliners. As the decade progressed, so did Lavigne's marketable sound.

Lavigne took a break from recording music, and right now she is pursuing careers in feature film acting and designing clothes and perfumes. She tried out voice acting, (Over the Hedge in 2006). That same year, she made her on-screen feature film debut in Fast Food Nation. In 2008, Lavigne introduced her clothing line, Abbey Dawn, and in 2009 she released her first perfume, Black Star, which was followed by her second perfume, Forbidden Rose, in 2010 and her third perfume, Wild Rose, in 2011.

In July 2006, Lavigne married her boyfriend of two years, Deryck Whibley, lead singer and guitarist for Sum 41. The marriage lasted four years, with Lavigne filing for divorce in 2009. Whibley and Lavigne continued to work together though, with Whibley producing her last album, as well as Lavigne's single "Alice", written for Tim Burton's film Alice in Wonderland.
