Last week, we foresaw that Adele’s Hello would peak the Rick Dees Weekly Top 40 countdown and Taylor Swift’s Wildest Dreams  would bid her tiara goodbye.

And true to fact, while Adele made it to the apex, Swift dropped down a notch and Shawn MendesStitches dove down to Number 5 giving way for some new candidates to reach the desired paramount slot. As I had mentioned in my article last week, it would not be easy for Mendes to reach the top given that there were too many big names climbing up and accurately predicted, he did lose control of his position.

Although a non-mover, we still have Canadian rapper Drake with a pretty nifty R&B track Hotline Bling shadowing the spotlight at Number 3 as well as English singer and songwriter Ellie Goulding’s electropop and R&B track On My Mind from her third album Delirium trailblazing at Number 4. Well what do you know? Fifty Shades of Grey certainly gave this young lady some hella publicity, so much so that she almost became as big as the movie!

Selena Gomez is kicking butt with her second single Same Old Love from her studio album Revival at Number 6 which frankly speaking, I think is dreadful but hey – it is different strokes for different folks, isn’t it? Watch this soar though, as music critics gave it some positive reviews. We also have another Justin Bieber phenomenon Sorry creeping up, which can do some damage too!

These two popular celebrities coupled with Adele and other upmost megastars will make a very interesting countdown this week, therefore anticipate a kick in the teeth on today’s Rick Dees Weekly Top 40 as it brings you your favorite countdown right here on Y101 Always First from 2 PM – 6 PM.

Dee’s countdown is also replayed on Wednesdays from 6 PM – 10 PM.
