Millions of Worth of Drugs Found in Jail
A team from 5 government agencies namely: PRO 7, the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) 7, Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) 7, and the Coast Guard went to search for contraband inside the Cebu City Jail this morning, August 15, 2016, and found P4.6 million and an estimated P1 million worth of shabu were confiscated from the inmates.
Due to the Tokhang operations outside or the (Knock-and-Plead) Operation which will be validated by the intelligence of the police stations to check on evidences of drugs and other illegal activities around the residences and specific areas, there has been a constant visitation of the inmates causing both inmates and the visitors to have a secret negotiation inside the jail and turning it as a drug den and a drug shop.
Proving the lack of security, the jail may have thought to have the highest supply of drugs compared outside.
According to Cebu Gov. Hilario Davide, ‘The confiscation of these drugs and other contraband shows how serious they are on stopping these shenanigans in prison’. And there will be other operations to rid the provincial jail of illegal items and halt illicit activities later on.
