“So proud of you brother!”, Justin Bieber says while he urges everyone to listen to Shawn Mendes’ new album, Illuminate.
A year ago, during an interview, Justin Bieber was asked what advice he could give to the then-rising fellow Canadian pop star Shawn Mendes. Bieber responded with a confused look that was either totally sincere or throwing some serious shade.
"Who's Shawn Mendes?" Bieber responded.
"Oh!" the interviewer replied. "He's on Island. He's from southern Ontario. He's 17 years old. He's got a song called ‘Stitches' that's, like, doing OK at pop radio."
"Nice. Nice. Good for him," Bieber said.
"Oh! Oh wow, so you don't even…" the interviewer said. "I thought for sure you might, because he's also from southern Ontario."
"No, I don't know him, but I will check him out, for sure," said Bieber.

And now just a year after Justin Bieber asked the infamous "who's Shawn Mendes?" question during the radio interview, the Love Yourself singer is sharing his support for his “brother” and his success.
On Wednesday morning (Oct. 5), Bieber released a series of tweets praising the now 18-year-old Canadian singer by saying his voice "makes me smile. Truly a gift to be able to move people's emotions through songs!"
