The Lion King remake

2016’s The Jungle Book director Jon Favreau is behind the new remake too! It’s gonna be cool!

After the critical and commercial success of this year's The Jungle Book, Disney has announced that it is working on a new movie version of the 1994 animated movie The Lion King.

Like The Jungle Book, the new take on The Lion King will feature an innovative mix of live action and CGI. Disney has hired this year’s The Jungle Book's director Jon Favreau to steer the new movie too.

Disney said in a statement: "The Lion King builds on Disney’s success of reimagining its classics for a contemporary audience with films like Maleficent, Cinderella and The Jungle Book. The upcoming Beauty And The Beast, starring Emma Watson as Belle, is already one of the most anticipated movies of 2017."

"Like Beauty and the Beast, The Lion King will include songs from the animated film," Disney added. Elton John and Tim Rice composed original songs for the 1994 animated movie, including Circle Of Life and Can You Feel The Love Tonight?, which went on to win an Oscar.

Disney has already made The Lion King into a Tony Award-winning stage musical which has been running on Broadway since 1997 and in London's West End since 1999.
