The Big Kahuna On The Afternoon Drive

After a brief leave, John M is back fully recovered from his knee injury.

It’s back to those rock tracks at the top and bottom of the hour as our Kahuna returns to his slot all jazzed to do board-work! The itch to go on-air is now taken care of and he’s back with a vengeance!

What to anticipate on the Afternoon Drive can only be divulged by the man himself but here’s what he revealed to me – Disappear by Mango! I wonder why, John M? Is this your choice track or does it simply work for that cigarette break?

Disappear incidentally, was our record-breaking progressive house track that topped our Weekly Top 20 charts for endless weeks in 2011. The almost seven minute anthem from Russia’s Mango and South African Andre Frauenstein featuring vocals from Stefan Ludik reflects an uplifting and catchy sound making the track outstand among the many popular house mixes which were making waves back then. Ludik is a Namibian musician who is also a TV personality (completing the first series of Big Brother Africa), an actor and a remarkable cricketer to add onto his countless talents.

Today, I didn’t get a chance to ambush John for a tête-à-tête as I frequently do, however he did communicate his thoughts through his fabulous selection of tracks including, as I said earlier, a roster of rock tracks to start each hour, one of which is a Bootleg Gold staple and favorite from the Red Hot Chili Peppers: By The Way – a 2002 release from the alternative rockers. Known for its passive melody and a change in music style by the Chili Peppers, it’s almost as if John relayed his deep emotions through those speakers.

Leaving it at that, let’s all tune in tomorrow to hear what he has to continue telling us once again. In the meantime, know that the Afternoon Drive hosted by John M on Y101 Always First runs Mondays through Thursdays from 2 PM to 6 PM, and on Friday’s Gold Rush… so keep it cuffed!
