Gorillaz Phase 4 Update: ‘Book of 2D’

The virtual band’s bassist also expressed his love for Beatle Ringo Starr.

Blur frontman Damon Albarn and animator Jamie Hewlett’s cartoon band are expected to release their fifth album shortly, their first record since 2011’s The Fall.

Previously, Gorillaz drummer Russel Hobbs gave a rare interview about the band’s new album. Now Murdoc has had a similar chat with Noisey, although he refuses to talk about new music.

In the interview, Murdoc is asked whether he prefers Oasis or Blur, opting for the Gallagher brothers’ band instead (amusing considering Albarn is the leader of the band Blur and may have probably been the one coming up with the answers.)

He also chooses The Beatles over The Rolling Stones. Later when asked who is the greatest living musician, he replied: “Me!. But credit where it’s due, for sheer versatility and staying power, I’d have to give a nod to Ringo Starr. While everyone else was coked out of their minds in the eighties, he did his career’s finest work on ‘Thomas the Tank Engine’.”
