The Book of Noodle

The multimedia series detail Noodle's journey following the events of Plastic Beach.

Late last month, ahead of their new album, Gorillaz chronicled their history via an interactive timeline posted to their various social media channels. Today, they formally kick off their fourth phase, revealing a new narrative for one of the animated band’s central characters, Noodle.

Throughout the morning, Gorillaz have posted pages from ‘The Book of Noodle’. New artwork from Jamie Hewlett is interspersed with text detailing Noodle’s journey following the events of 2010’s Plastic Beach. The tale begins "days after the attack on Plastic Beach" and finds Noodle tracking down and defeating an evil shapeshifter named Mazuu. It's a difficult task, although "finding a shapeshifter is like looking for a beard at an Arcade Fire concert," according to the whimsical series.

The story is told over 10 chapters featuring bizarre, other-worldly visuals. It ends with Noodle chopping off Mazuu's head. After escaping his Sumo bodyguards, she "[packs] herself into a FedEx crate with dried fish, bottled water and a copy of Moby Dick – if she was ever to finish Melville's onerous classic, it was now."
