friday gold rush as seen by k

Looking at Friday Gold Rush from a millennial generation’s point of view is undoubtedly different from the way us Y101 warhorse troupers see it!

While shellbacks like those of us who have been with Y101 for a number of years and a minority of us who are Baby Boomers look at FGR the traditional way, the fledging chiliads who have been plugged with technology since birth see it from a different perspective altogether.

For example, when I hear a track like Can’t You Hear Me Knocking by The Rolling Stones, I read it from a different viewpoint altogether. What comes to mind is the flower power era when drugs, sex and rock and roll were the nucleus of life, and everything was all about love and peace. Remember the legend John Lennon with his partner Yoko Ono? Yes, that’s the flashback I get verses K’s.

For K, our spanking website magician, digital expert and social media connoisseur, the music that our favorite DJs spin on Gold Rush bring nostalgic memories of her youth as she reminisces on her mother doing household chores, her father working around their home and her siblings running around and merely enjoying youth.

Although a headbanger by nature and a die-hard Bootleg Gold fan, K enjoys listening to those unforgettable 80s, 90s and early 2000 tunes that remind her of the times she’d be hanging in her room, studying for exams, lazing in bed chatting on the phone with a boyfriend or simply schmoozing with her siblings as they would listen to Y101. The true millennial that she is, multi-tasking is a breeze and she’s fascinated by diverse activities including pinning her ears back to the unparalleled music show Friday Gold Rush.

As we talked about the death of The Thin White Duke, David Bowie, we however could both relate to the anguish of the loss of such a prominent and extraordinary prodigy and some of his songs that are often heard on Fridays like Let’s Dance.

Friday I’m In Love by The Cure is another one of those British worldwide hits that we both harked back to – it was the second single out of their 1992 studio Album Wish which we in point of fact, actually wish we could go back to!

It’s amazing how Y101 has influenced the entire Cebu through the years and how many special memories these excellent #fbf Gold Rush shows have gifted us so lock it in and continue reminiscing with us on Fridays all day!
