rock-and-rebels

The Rock & Rebels concert happened last Saturday at Aboitiz Sports Field featuring American glam metal band FireHouse and local bands Drop Decay and Franco.

The concert started with local pop-punk band Drop Decay who prepped the audience with their loud fun songs from their first ever album Generation which was released last July. The night started with good pop punk music that drew the crowd in to start rocking. With vocalist Tony Alfonso’s charms, the crowd was pumped and excited for the next hours to come. Drop Decay closed their act with their famous catchy song Our Time is Now when it began to rain.

The second performer was Franco, who was awaited by many fans. The post-grunge band opened their act with the rain starting to pour hard. The rain died down eventually to which front man Franco Reyes admired the Visayans’ strength to keep rocking under the pouring rain. The audience sang along to the tunes of This Gathering, Memory Kill, and of course everyone’s favorite Better Days. Franco gave the night a magical touch with their songs of positivity and love.

The last act of the night was the most awaited by many people who grew up in the 90’s. FireHouse exploded into the stage bringing with them nostalgia that melted the audience. The crowd went wild all night long singing to all of the songs FireHouse performed. Front man CJ Snare’s energetic performance drew the crowd excited. C.J. walked and ran across the stage, he jumped and picked the mic stand and spun it around. Guitarist Bill Levety did a minute-long guitar solo and one of the best things was when drummer Michael Foster did a more than a minute drum solo. He rocked the drum set and the crowd cheered him on. He threw his drum stick up and picked it up in the air and continued to make love to his drums. The band performed all of their crowd-pleasers including Love of a Lifetime, All She Wrote, Rock on the Radio and many more. Appropriately, pyrotechnics added the stage’s dazzling experience. Fire shot out in front of the stage in spirit of a rock metal concert. Snare took pictures of the crowd and thanked them for their energy. When the show was over, the band went back on stage after the crowd asked for more. FireHouse thought that it was too early to leave and so they serenaded the crowd with I Live My Life for You. The crowd was still excited as ever. The crowd was then delightfully surprised when firework displays exploded in the night sky when the band played Don’t Treat Me Bad.

It’s been 20 years since the American glam metal band first came to the Philippines, and it’s the first time they’re ever been here to Cebu. Moreover, this year also marks their 25th anniversary in the music industry. Rock & Rebels is a concert series produced by The Event Hive in partnership with Harley Davidson Cebu and Aboitiz Land.
