Is Taylor Swift playing Dazzler

We might get a cameo of the mutant disco dancer to be played by none other than Taylor Swift.

Game of Thrones’ actress Sophie Turner (who plays Jean Grey in the upcoming X-Men: Apocalypse) posted a picture on Instagram in the weekend. In the picture, we see Turner in character as Jean Grey. She is accompanied by the character Cyclops (played by Tye Sheridan) inside a 1980’s era record store. The characters (also in 1980’s attire) looks like they’re browsing for records. Cyclops pulled out a record by Dazzler called Sounds of Light and Fury. In the X-Men universe, Dazzler is a mutant with the ability to convert sound vibrations into light and energy beams.

Taylor Swift playing Dazzler in new X-Men movie

Turner captioned the picture she posted on Instagram “#FlashbackFriday to that time Cyclops and I went shopping at the mall and found our favorite singer’s album (pre 1989, of course).

Based on Turner’s obvious reference about 1989 in the caption and the fact that she tagged Taylor Swift in the picture, it’s pretty safe to assume that the real life Bad Blood singer might get a cameo in the upcoming film to be released mid-May in the Philippines.

Last summer, the film’s producer and writer Simon Kinberg showed a photo himself, Sophie Turner, and James McAvoy (who plays Charles Xavier/Professor X) hanging out with Swift in Montreal where X-Men: Apocalypse was shooting.

Around that time, Turner told entertainment news sites that Taylor Swift was definitively not going to be featured in the movie. But the rumor might be shedding some new light after the Instagram photo Turner posted this weekend.

If Taylor Swift plays Alison Blaire/Dazzler in the new X-Men movie, it will be the first live-action screen appearance of the mutant rock star/disco singer.

Swift wasn’t the first popular singer to be rumored to play Dazzler. During development for the 2014 film X-Men: Days of Future Past, it was announced that Lady Gaga was to portray the character, but it was later revealed that it was an April fool’s prank.

Even further back in 1979, Dazzler co-creator Jim Shooter wrote a treatment for a superhero flick to star actress Bo Derek as the superheroine disco singer. Here’s how it goes down; Dazzler, Spider-Man, and the Avengers (who in this treatment are made up of Iron Man, Beast, Wasp, Falcon, and Scarlet Witch) are thrusted suddenly into a futuristic dystopian New York where two feudal clans; Upper Manhattan, and Lower Manhattan, battle for supremacy. These two factions are led by the Queen of Fire who the script suggests would be played by Donna Summer and her stompers played by The Village People. The other faction is led by the Witch Queen who would be played by Cher and her knights would be played by KISS. This treatment was greenlit but nothing really came out of it.
