The Canadian pop star is back in the studio recording new material with Blood Orange.

Last year, British Columbia singer-songwriter Carly Rae Jepsen released the fantastic 80’s inspired album Emotion where she teamed up with talented artists like Rostam Batmanglij (of Vampire Weekend) and Dev Hynes (aka Blood Orange)

This weekend it’s looking as if she’s got more magic in store, as she’s reteamed with the great Dev Hynes.

Jepsen channeled old school Madonna on her last album. For her next follow-up, however, the singer has been revisiting 70’s music at least for the time being and the new album might be disco-inspired.

I can’t explain what we’re doing right now, but we’re very much into disco-y things, whatever this next album may or may not turn out to be,” Jepsen said. “But I’m very much referencing ABBA a lot, and the Bee Gees, all of that stuff.”

Jepsen brought in the right producers to work on a groovy 70’s -inspired album with the likes of Rostam Batmanglij who has just recently left his band Vampire Weekend to do solo works and new wave artist Dev Hynes whose recent album as Blood Orange, Cupid Deluxe is acclaimed for combining indie pop, funk, jazz, and R&B.

Jepsen also added, “It’s fun to dig into oldies and see what you can celebrate about it, like a good movie or good song — to take your favorite pieces of something and add some new stuff to create something different,
