It is official. Theo James of the Divergent series will be playing the iconic 007 agent. But is he the right choice?

The James Bond film series is one of the longest continually-running film series in history. In 53 years, the franchise released about 24 films with 6 actors portraying the iconic lead role of the 007 agent James Bond over the years. With Daniel Craig retiring the role, the licence to kill has now recently been given to 31-year old Theo James from the Divergent series fame.

The English actor is famous for portraying the lead role in the American crime drama series Golden Boy and “Four” in the sci fi Divergent series. The 31-year old has beaten other worthy contenders for the role of the iconic movie spy that includes the likes of Idris Elba, Tom Hardy, and Tom Hiddleston.

James went through an audition to play the part like the rest of the contenders and his efforts have paid off. When his agent called him and said he was chosen to play the part, he nearly fell of his chair. He said that James Bond is one of the many roles that he has dreamed of playing ever since he was a kid. He assured fans of the franchise that his performance of the James Bond role shall be a blast.

At 31 years old, Theo James is the same age as Sean Connery when he played the iconic role in the first Bond film Dr. No back in 1962. Sean Connery went on to portray Bond in six more films. Theo James will be the 7th actor to portray the character of James Bond in the official EON produced films. Pre-production for the next Bond film, the 25th in the series, will start in August and Theo James will begin filming in September.

Just like any actor chosen to portray a respected pop culture icon for the first time, fans of the said icon are still in doubts if the young English actor would deliver a good Bond. Back in 2005, fans of the series were also in doubt when it was announced that Daniel Craig was to replace Pierce Brosnan, but it turned out Craig was amazing. Maybe in a year, Bond fans will get to see if Theo James is really the right choice.
