Actresses That Were Once Bombshells

There's a joke in France I heard about two grandmothers in the park reminiscing about their youth. One grandmother told the other, "Do you remember how we always wanted to look like Brigitte Bardot? Well. here we are now!"

Another sex symbol from the 60’s, 80 year old Ursula Andress used to to be a model in her hometown of Switzerland and had even briefly dated film icon James Dean. She became famous worldwide in 1962 when she became the first ever and quintessential Bond Girl. She played Honey Ryder in the first Bond film Dr No. Her appearance in the film by emerging out from the water wearing nothing but a white bikini and bra became an iconic moment in cinematic and fashion history. Since the beginning of the 90’s, her acting appearances have been rare. Her last role to date was playing Madonna a low-budget 2005 Swiss film The Bird Preachers.

Diana Rigg

You might probably know her now as the grandmother of Margaery Tyrell, Olenna Tyrell, in Game of Thrones. The 77-year old actress started her long successful acting career since the 50’s. She played Emma Peel in the 60’s TV series The Avengers and has even played a Bond girl, the only wife and first true love of James Bond, Teresa di Vicenzo in 1969’s On Her Majesty’s Secret Service. A member of the Royal Shakespeare Company in 1959, she debuted on Broadway in 1971 in the production of Abelard & Heloise. She’s won a BAFTA, a Tony, an Emmy, and has been nominated several times for other awards. This Dame Commander of the British Empire used to be the bombshell back then. It may be tough to see at first with Olenna Tyrell's headdress to end all headdresses, but when you put a present-day Natalie Dormer (the actress playing the grand-daughter of Rigg’s character in GoT) and compare it with a picture of a younger Diana Riggs, then you will notice the striking resemblance. Here she was on the 1969 Bond film.
