It was no bolt from the blue to see Taylor Swift’s Wildest Dreams make it to Number 1 last week and neither will it be a knock for six to see her reign again this week on the Rick Dees Weekly Top 40 chart. Dominating stages across the world and overshadowing all headlines, this young American singer, songwriter and actress from Pennsylvania seems to be prepping it up to be the highest earning woman in the music industry and at the rate she’s going, she’ll outdo her rival Katy Perry’s 135 million!

With this chartbusting pop ballad out of her fifth studio album 1989 that received nothing but positive reviews from music critics and commendations on its composition, Swifty has nowhere to go but up in her career. Released last August 31, 2015, this 3:40 minute masterpiece of moderate tempo at 69 BPM is her fifth single from the album and it was compared to the works of the ever-so-trailblazing Lana Del Rey whose influence is drawn from poetry and film noir

Still at Number 2 is The Weeknd’s The Hills, as it continues to be a non-mover for three weeks in a row now and what’s more, it could possibly stay there even longer! With so many popular tracks overtaking this bad-ass single, it can’t seem to catch the Jetstream to thrust itself to Number 1. I still believe this PBR&B song released last May 27, should hit the top. After all, it did replace its own Canadian titleholder’s Can’t Feel My Face ranking at Number 1 in the Billboard Top 100, which tells me a lot about the song.

At Number 3, we have Justin Bieber’s What Do You Mean as he gradually declines from the peak in harmony with R City Featuring Adam Levine’s Locked Away at Number 4, both of which obtained the Number 1 spot with flying colors.

Coming in forcefully at Number 5 last week was the turbine powered pop track Stitches by yet another Canadian singer Shawn Mendes from his debut album Handwritten. I just love this track for its cheerful, highly-seasoned aura and its appealing lyrics! I think this is a potential topnotch although not highly acclaimed by critics, obviously because of Mendes’ unripe stature in the music industry. Nevertheless, his start has truly convinced me and evidently many others due to the pungent mainstream tune of Stitches which remind many of Bruno Mars or Justin Timberlake!

Look out for the explosive track from the British-Irish boy band One Direction that’s sluggishly making its way down (or should I say up) from Number 8 to Number 7. Drag Me Down is a song from their fifth album Made In The A.M. released on July 31 of this year. Receiving positive reviews, the mid-tempo pop-rock Police-resembling track showcasing a more mature One Direction sound seems like it’ll rise!
