Adele makes it to Mount Everest yet another time with Hello, elevating high over sea level on Rick Dees Weekly Top 40

It’s unreal how this colossal powerhouse is invincible! Three weeks at Number 1 on the Weekly Top 40 Countdown, Numero Uno on Rick Dees’ All Number 1s, frontrunner of Rick Dees’ algorithm-based All Number 1s ending 2015 and conqueror of Rick Dees’ Biggest Hits of 2015 – oh my, will this titanic ever sink?

Absolutely not! When superstars like Celine Dion venerate and worship her and even surprise her audience crowd with a cover of Hello on their New Year’s Eve concert in the entertainment city of Las Vegas, you know this young lady from Tottenham, London is only beginning her career!

This English woman is nowhere near the end of the line as Adele Laurie Blue Adkins continues to release more singles from her prestigious and most anticipated album. Confirmed to have been the highest earner of 2015, her third studio album 25 ended the year with 7.44 million copies sold in the United States alone. Quite a gigantic accomplishment given that it was released only six weeks before the yearend.

Ever since 2004 when Usher sold 7.98 million copies of Confessions in one calendar year, there has been no other record sales that have exceeded these figures and considering that the album was released in March, it pretty much had a huge head start verses Adele’s, which has barely been out in the market two months. Hence, a big applause for this mega-celebrity who’s about to hit up the world with her upcoming tour!

And going onto Justin Bieber’s Sorry sitting at Number 2 today, I see him with good odds to make it to the top. The song released last October 23, 2015 from his fourth studio album Purpose is once again thriving! Creeping up the Dees chart and making a lot of noise, it’s become another bombshell!

And to harmonize with his hard earnt reputation not only as a singer but as a niggling juvenile, here’s some news on the Biebs… he’s made the headlines once again by getting booted out of Tulum, an ancient Mayan site in Mexico. Living up to his troublesome reputation, a drunk entitled pop star Bieber decided he’d climb up restricted ruins to drop his trou and moon the world, after which he ventured into prohibited areas despite public warnings. Long story short, authorities took action – they escorted him and his entourage out of the site and voila – another publicity stunt by the Canadian delinquent!

At Number 3, we have a non-mover by the diva Selena Gomez with her track Same Old Love out of her second studio album Revival – not a bad track at all, in my opinion. Certainly much better than that terrible torch song Good For You which to me was not worthy of being the first single release of an album.

And at Number 4, we have another Canadian artist Alessia Cara with Here up 4 notches on this week’s countdown. The song is her lead single for her EP Four Pink Walls and her debut album Know-It-All. The track samples Isaac Hayes’ 1971 song Ike’s Rap II and Portishead’s 1994 song Glory Box. Released last April, it’s taking some time to set in but hey, it’s within the top 5 tracks so let’s see where it goes from here.

At Number 5 we still have Ellie Goulding’s On My Mind resisting its southbound slide, while waiting in line we have tracks like Meghan Trainor’s Like I’m Gonna Lose You featuring John Legend and more exciting dynamos!

So, look forward to how the Rick Dees Weekly Top 40 pans out next week right here on Y101 Always First from 2 PM – 6 PM.

Dee’s countdown is also replayed on Wednesdays from 6 PM – 10 PM.
