For a change, we have a new titleholder to reign the charts this week!

For some time now, it’s been Adele versus Bieber here at the Rick Dees Weekly Top 40 countdown. So, it’s actually alleviating to have a new reigning champion for a change, even if I’m not too keen on the hunky-dory torch track Same Old Love by Selena Gomez. However, in all fairness, I think it holds more substance than her previous track Good For You which makes it modestly acceptable.

Released last September 10, 2015 as the second single of Selena’s second studio album Revival, the powerhouse impacted contemporary hits radio by October and snowballed to other genre’s airplays immediately after having been well received by reviewers including Rolling Stone. The mid-tempo electropop and synthpop track, backed by a wonky piano loop, a snapping bassline, some Italo disco synths and an impassioned background of vocals, was complimented for its catchy tune and appealing resonance.

Remakes have been tattooed for release including an official remix featuring rapper Fetty Wap – nothing unanticipated coming from the ever-so-ritzy, insanely-beautiful diva whose ever-so-powerful track is a complete chart-topper!

As for the Biebs, who’s focusing on his Purpose World Tour and claiming he wants no attachments with any of his speculative female partners, he’s been demoted to Number 2 in the Dees chart this week. His track Sorry only maintained the crest for a week before his ex, Selena dethroned him in spite of its privileged status parked at Number 1 on the Billboard Top 100 for the past 12 weeks!

At Number 3 we have the exceptional ironclad that’s making waves, not only here at Rick Dees’ tops but also in the US Billboard Top 100 as it ranks at Number 6 this week. The debut single by the Canadian singer Alessia Cara is categorically muscular, veering away from traditional pop! Released as far back as April of 2015, the sleeping R&B giant Here is the lead single for her EP Four Pink Walls and her debut album Know-It-All. Rolling Stone classified it as one of the best songs of the year so anticipate this one to climb the ladder.

I’m bowled over Meghan Trainor Featuring John Legend as it continues at Number 5 with Like I’m Gonna Lose You. Staying stagnant in a countdown is usually not good, especially when other tracks surpass it. I would have thought it had countless possiblities to make it up there, considering the positive reviews it got, Legend’s presence and Trainor’s unbelievable vocals. Nevertheless, let’s see what next week’s results tell us.

Heading southbound are Adele’s Hello at Number 4, Ellie Goulding’s On My Mind at Number 7, Drake’s Hotline Blink at Number 9 and Taylor Swift’s Wildest Dreams now at Number 11 among many other aces, while journeying northbound are The Weeknd’s In The Night at Number 6 and The Chainsmokers Featuring Rozes with the track Roses at Number 10. What’s coming in strong is another goliath from Bieber as it slowly creeps its way uphill. Love Yourself is already topping all international charts and is planted at Number 3 on the Billboard Top 100s, hence look ahead to this colossus as it battles its way to Number 1!

I wonder how Rick Dees Weekly Top 40 will pan out on next week’s edition with a sundry of prospective winners upcoming – quite a dubious countdown up ahead right here on Y101 Always First so lock it in again from 2 PM to 6 PM next Sunday for more exhilaration!
Dee’s countdown is also replayed on Wednesdays from 6 PM to 10 PM.
