We all come to a point of acceptance that yes, I may not be as perfect as the models in my favorite magazine but I refuse to look ugly. Everyone wants and deserves to look glam on the beach, so here's a quick guide on which items to shop for your body type!
Full Frame/Plus-sized Girls
I belong to this category and I have painfully learned this lesson- string bikinis and bare back suits are not our friends! Since plus sized women generally have larger chests, find a bikini that has under wire support, thicker bathing suit straps and double-stitched bands for the most flattering results. If you have a big booty, you should look for designs with solid bottoms and printed tops to balance out your proportion. And our love handles- oh yes- need some special care too! Wear a high-waist bottom that goes above your belly button to avoid the dreaded muffin top. For our back fat, again, opt for thicker straps and high backs!
Short Torso and Legs
You want to give the illusion of an elongated body so stick to low-rise bottoms and note that halter straps draw attention to your neck and shoulders, making people skim over your short mid-section. If you're a petite gal with short legs, why not go for swimsuits or bikinis in high cuts in the leg? Since you are showing more skin, it will make your gams appear longer.
The 'Surfboard' Body
If you have an athletic figure, avoid boy-cut brief type bikini bottoms and opt for feminine prints and padded bikinis to give you the illusion of a curvier body. If your shoulders are broad, opt for an asymmetrical neckline as this can help create the look of an hourglass figure, thus evening out a boxy upper body. Or you can opt a monokini with some printed panels along the side (or vice-versa)!
Small Chest and Booty
Flatter your flat chest! This is when feminine elements come handy- opt for some fun ruffles, embellishments and look for a bikini top with some padding. If you want a little extra for your bottoms, wear some fun, bright colors and loud prints to try and distract from a flatter tush.
