Miguel is a 12-year old Mexican boy. He is an aspiring musician and he hopes that one day he will become his idol, the talented musician Ernesto de la Cruz. However, his family has this generations-old ban on music.  So Miguel, desperate to prove his talent, finds himself in the stunning and colorful Land of the Dead. Along the way, Miguel meets other characters and together they set off on an extraordinary journey to unlock the real story behind Miguel's family history.

The concept of the movie is based on the Mexican holiday of Día de Muertos (or Day of the Dead). The movie had an early premiere in Mexico back in October. It gained “universal acclaim” from critics who found the movie “clever, tender, amusingly macabre, and vivid.”
