Nominees for the 58th Annual Grammy Awards released!

Kendrick Lamar receives the most nominations for this year’s Grammy’s to be aired February 6, 2016.

Hip-hop favorite, Lamar, receives 11 nominations including Album of the Year, for the critically acclaimed To Pimp a Butterfly. His song Alright also received a nod for Song of the Year, and his collaboration with Taylor Swift in Bad Blood gave him a Best Pop Duo Performance nod as well.

Taylor Swift and The Weeknd received the second most nominations. Swift receives an Album of the Year nod for 1989 and her song Blank Space receives a Record of the Year and Song of the Year. The Weeknd’s Earned It got three nominations and his hit Can’t Feel My Face receives a nomination for Record of the Year.

Tori Kelly and Meghan Trainor got nominated for Best New Artist, as well as Australian indie rocker Courtney Barnett, which is a great surprise, considering that the Grammy’s nominate mostly pop stars. Hopefully Barnett would win in a long shot just how jazz musician Esperanza Spalding won Best New Artist in 2011 after competing against Justin Bieber and Drake.

There was no surprise that Uptown Funk received a nod for Record of the Year, but Kanye West, Rihanna and Paul McCartney’s efforts on FourFiveSeconds was totally snubbed. The song, which is critically acclaimed for Kanye and Rihanna’s new direction and its minimalistic production, wasn’t even nominated for anything. Drake’s Hotline Bling was nowhere to be found as well.

Madonna and Prince, who are both 90s icon, haven’t also received a nod for their effort this year. Madonna released her 13th album Rebel Heart and Prince released his HITNRUN: Phase One with critical praise but no nomination at this year’s Grammy.

Another surprise is when D’Angelo was able to nab a nomination for Record of the Year for his song Really Love. D’Angelo, who hasn’t released an album in 15 years, also got a nod for Best R&B album for Black Messiah. D’Angelo’s return to the music scene was awarded a well-deserved Grammy nods.
