The Academy Awards 2016 also known as the Oscars will be broadcast in 28 February and will be hosted by Chris Rock.

The adventure semi-biographical thriller The Revenant receives the most nominations with 12 including Best Picture, Best Director for Alejandro G. Iñárritu, Best Actor for Leonardo DiCaprio, Best Supporting Actor for Tom Hardy, Best Sound Editing and Best Sound Mixing, Best Production Design, Best Cinematography and more.

George Miller’s Mad Max: Fury Road receives the second most nominations with 10.

This year, there are only eight movies competing for Best Picture that include The Revenant and Mad Max: Fury Road, the biographical comedy-drama The Big Short about the 2007-2008 Financial Crisis, the Steven Spielberg Cold War thriller Bridge of Spies, the Irish-British-Canadian period drama Brooklyn, the Ridley Scott sci-fi movie The Martian, and the drama films Spotlight and Room.

Hoping to repeat his success last year with The Theory of Everything, Eddie Redmayne is competing against Leo who hasn’t won an Oscar yet for Best Actor. Both of them will be competing with Brian Cranston, Matt Damon, and Michael Fassbender for the movies Trumbo, The Martian, and Steve Jobs, respectively. Steven Spielberg and Ridley Scott, veterans of the Best Director nominations weren’t nominated this year. Instead Lenny Abrahamson, Tom McCarthy, Adam McKay, George Miller and Alejandro G. Iñárritu were nominated. Iñárritu won Best Director last year for Birdman.
