Lady Gaga provided one of the highlights of the Oscar telecast last year with her salute to The Sound of Music. She'll return to the Oscar stage this year as a nominee. We will find out on 8 February 2016 if Mama Monster will win an Oscar for the song Til it Happens to You for the campus rape documentary The Hunting Ground.

The song was co-written with Dianne Warren who has already received eight Oscar nods. Warren was nominated before for writing Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now, Because You Loved Me, How Do I Live and I Don't Want to Miss a Thing.

The song gives a voice to sexual assault survivors who were told how to behave after their rape, much like the subjects in the film.

Gaga wrote a statement that she posted on Instagram, "This nomination lends a voice to so many victims and their families around the world. Thank you to The Academy for recognizing the movement of people who have come together around 'The Hunting Ground' and 'Til It Happens To You' in the name of sexual assault. Diane Warren and I are simply honored to represent the voices of so many survivors."
