This island may have experienced the hottest summer so far that the search for the coldest and most delicious drink has become a crucial part of the everyday lifestyle.

Nevertheless, living in the ever-growing city of Cebu does have its perks. New establishments are popping up in every corner and all you have to do is pick one and start from there.

Rebecca (our web writer), the web admin and I found a charming looking café located in the Capitol Site, across Cebu Doctor’s Hospital. I loved how they kept the original structure of the house. It adds character to what is already a delightful spot to sit and relax.

We settled at a corner near the window, and proceeded to scan the menu to cure our never-ending hunger and thirst. The price range is a little bit higher than your average coffee shop, but that didn’t stop us. We really wanted to know what this place had to offer. I asked their staff and barista what their top dishes and beverages were, and they were kind enough to point them out to me. They had a very pleasant workforce who was more than happy to help us out with whatever we needed.

It didn’t take a while for the first dish to land on our table.

Bulgogi Panini

If you’re a big fan of Korean cuisine, this wouldn’t be a stranger to you. This is quite a savory bite, but fulfilling at the same time. I reckon this is best paired with a tangy or tart beverage to cut off the fullness of the flavour. The Strawberry Lemon Freeze was the best combination for this dish, in my opinion. I asked for the sugar level to be brought down to 25% though, but if you’re a sweet tooth, don’t let my conservative behind stop you from your sugar rush.

Cream Pasta

This was honestly my favourite out of the three dishes that were considered to be the best-sellers. The Cream Pasta was light and well-balanced; a perfect meal for an afternoon snack. We paired it up with a Creamy Corn Frappe – a summer special – which also happens to be my top beverage of choice.

Chocolate Waffle

And now, we were handed a dish that looked absolutely amazing that it turned out to be very difficult to stop ourselves from diving in before we could even take a photo. This chocolate wonder was fluffy, warm and crunchy, and the scoops of chocolate ice cream sealed the deal. We chose the Java Chip to pair, and the coffee definitely brought out more of that chocolate flavour.  If it was possible for a person to overdose on food, this would be the dish, and it would happen only to Rebecca. She devoured the whole thing, and completely forgot that she was with two more people.

Top 3 Drinks

The Strawberry Lemon Freeze (far left) was an absolute delight. It was sweet, tangy and tart which reminded me of the Nerds candy that I used to enjoy as a child (actually, I still do enjoy munching on those little wonky-looking sugar clumps). This is a Summer Special, together with the Creamy Corn Frappe (far right). The corn frappe was my favourite out of the three. Maybe it’s just me getting old, or I really do genuinely enjoy the light and flavourful taste of this beverage. It wasn’t too sweet, and it was very comforting.

Now we move on to their best-seller: the Java Chip. They aren’t called Coffee Prince for any reason but that. This blended cooler was strong enough to get rid of any unnecessary grogginess, but pleasing enough to consume without flinching.

They actually make their own whipped cream. No dispenser or any of that nonsense, but manually whipped cream. We asked about this because we really liked how deliciously fresh it tasted. This decadent ivory goodness stood out for us.

It’s no surprise that this establishment had everything on point. They were awarded the Best Coffee Shop in Cebu by the Golden Globe Annual Awards for Business Excellence.

The café has a huge sitting space inside with booths on the ground floor, and double-bunkers on the second. There’s enough room for everybody. When you’re in the area, drop by Coffee Prince.
