I am quite sure a lot have written about the elegant little spot located at Paseo Saturnino, Maria Luisa Road.

I, for one, have frequented the place. It doesn't really take much convincing to pull in a couple of friends to try an exquisite slice of their delicious cake or amazing pastries.

This bistro doesn't just offer a wide array of French delicacies, but a stylish yet comfortable ambience to settle in as well. As soon as you enter the area, you are greeted by their friendly staff and welcomed by a mix of irresistible aromas from freshly baked goodies. It literally is like stepping into a whole new country. I would personally like to refer to it as Cebu's own Little France.

Tymad Bistro exhibits a good number of best sellers. Chef and restaurant owner Philippe Estienne presented his top 3 cakes, and his most sought-after dish. I have to say that they looked incroyable. They were art on a plate. We almost could not get ourselves to pierce the surface with our forks for fear of destroying the breathtaking craftsmanship, but alas, we had to have a taste. And regret that move, we did not.

This is a classic french cake made with 3 layers of almond sponge cake soaked in coffee syrup, with 2 layers of coffee butter cream and one of dark chocolate ganache, covered in a chocolate glaze.

Foie Gras au Torchon

Foie Gras is one of France's best known delicacies. Au Torchon is a traditional method of boiling a batch of duck (or goose) liver in a kitchen towel. This is served with bread (and not just any ordinary slice, but one of the most flavourful), onion confit, Porto gelée and cranberry jelly.

I loved the Trianon. I thought it was the perfect cure for a stressful day. Don't take my word for it though. My thoughts might just be based on a biased palate considering I have an undying love for praline. The Admin – who accompanied me in this unforgettable flavour adventure – preferred the Strawberry Cake. I honestly thought he would go for the L'Opéra seeing that he had an affinity for coffee, but I guess I could safely say I was making shallow assumptions. However, we both had a moment of silence as we agreed to how good the Foie Gras was. The different textures and play of flavours were just unexplainable.

I think this is one of those "you really do have to taste it to believe it" situations. If you're looking to surprise your taste buds with new soupéon, you don't have to book a flight to Paris. The next best thing is just around the corner.
