Here in the Philippines, placing as much types of round fruits and food you can find on your dinner table is customary regardless of having a big or small feast. But what about other countries around the world?

New Year's day means an abundance of exquisite wine and popped champagne bottles. For those who prefer to celebrate at home or at sports bars, a live telecast of football is enjoyed over a few beers.

Everyone gathers around the Thames to enjoy the fireworks from the London Eye as the Big Ben strikes 12.

Japan
Temples welcome visitors as they pray for their departed loved ones and abundance during the year. Temple bells are rung 108 times to scare away evil spirits and elements. Decorative Mochi cakes are also enjoyed during the festivities.

Celebrations in France are called Reveilion and since this calls for a feast also known as Le Rveilion de Saint-Sylvestre. This is an extravagant and pompous feast with a large gathering of families, friends and of course, popped champagne.

Looks like you have to get new plates every year- plates used all year-round are collected and thrown against household doors. The more broken plates, the more friends the new year will bring upon you.
