I happen to be invited to speak in front of almost 80 commerce students at the University of San Jose Recoletos, last Monday, September 5, 2011. The topic was all about Power Dressing and I was happy to have accepted the invite , knowing the fact that this could be another learning experience for me , as well as a chance to impart my knowledge with a younger generation eager to know what's next for them in the professional world out there.

Dressing up and getting ready to climb the corporate ladder takes more than just a simple shop-and-wear-anything-comfy kind of attitude. It requires more knowledge and skills to get in shape and gear up to battle out a stylish attitude , by commanding a fashionable statement thats proven to keep up with the times, and create a highly professional put-together image that matter.

Here are a few tips I talked about during the 2-hour seminar that ended up with a fun-filled thought provoking open forum as the students threw in questions regarding the dos and don'ts in relation to their upcoming profession and how they can be in sync with fashion.

Power up ... Get ahead...

1. Attract, don't look under attack. You can look stylishly corporate, improvise and  add color to do away from the boring classic look. A good fitting matters, makes you look pulled up and sleek. Accessorizing is the icing on the cake. So compliment it with scarves or minimal necklaces that compliment the whole ensemble.

2. Wardrobe warrior. Get ready and win that image... Organize your closet and separate business clothing from your social apparel . So when the need calls for it, your armed to win the battle. Learn also to mix and match, but not at all times. Break away from the boring classics and improvise.

3. Armor ready. Your jacket is your armor, and it commands a take-me-serious look. Long sleeves always call for attention, and  can go from casual to business look with it. Pinstripes always flatter , aside from the sliming effect on the body, its clean linear look makes you more sleek and sharp.

4. Break a leg. Socks and hosiery for men and women respectively is a must in the workplace. It adds to the way people look at you.  Only the clean one color tone is acceptable in the corporate office. And no crazy prints ...please.. A naked feet suits well for socials and out of the office gatherings.

5. Step up. Shoes speak about your personality, they are even tagged as the strongest indicators of your socioeconomic status. In business or in fashion, don't get pinned down on unpolished footwear... Closed toed pumps are the most desirable looking and a little heel won't hurt , it adds up to your height.  Step it up and gain that kick .

6. Success story. Look and feel successful, and see how it attracts more success in return. People look at you and praise you for that sheer success image,  and so the universe sends off positive energies and replicates a feel good attitude for success. Never look sad or unhappy , that could signal the wrong impressions on you.

7. Time is Gold. Literally speaking it really is precious, and you either save or waste money with time. Figuratively speaking, achieving  a good business image takes a great timepiece, and it adds enduring strength and power when wearing a metal watch. It's symbolic of authority. Plastic and rubber watches are left for the bleachers.

8. Head start . A stylish well groomed hair is essential. Have the best cut that suits your professional image. And it's proven that your hair is a readable barometer to check for cleanliness and neatness. As your crowning glory, always wear it to the top, to where it's suppose to be. Consult a good stylist, and see how looks can enhance your image.

9. Confidence . By maintaining a good posture whether standing or sitting down, watch your own shoulders and keep it up. Men need to look strong and upright, to gain that trust in the workroom. Confidence in women can be measured by her make up. That shows that you exerted an effort in looking good, and feeling good by applying tasteful make up. Paying attention  to details is a plus factor.

10. Air power. Breathe powerfully and allow yourself and  take breathing exercise daily. Breath in and out and let your mind go and soon you revitalize your energy. Your skin and eyes will also look refreshed , and then your posture returns to power position.

De-stress and power up your image consistently, by maintaining the following tips I mentioned . Take control of that power to look good, and feel good in style. Power dressing indeed has a lot of requirements, and since  corporate people put their minds and soul to keep up with the juggling jungle , in the business world, they also need to look good and keep up with the right stylish image .
