It was obvious that Alessia Cara would make it to Number 1 last Saturday with Here but wtf happened to Ed Sheeran’s Touch And Go?

It was no bolt from the blue to see Alessia Cara rule the roost on this week’s Weekly Top 20 – after all, she had already reigned on the Rick Dees charts for a couple of weeks and it was more than likely that she’d hit Number 1 here too. But what totally boggled me was how a personage like Ed Sheeran could plummet 4 slots down to Number 8 this week with such a promising future.

But first, let’s talk about the Canadian singer born on July 11, 1996 who piloted this week’s countdown. Having been an inexperienced rookie in the music world, she clearly shouted out self-confidently quite a naysaying theme – a young teen out to rule the world when she first recorded Here in 2014, she was bright and breezy to let everyone know through her R&B controversial track that being an introvert and dissing partying and drinking was okay.

Although many clawed the song, it was ranked at Number 21 in Rolling Stone for the year 2015 and Number 6 on Billboard’s year-end list and was voted as the anthem for those wearied listeners of pop songs about carousing. Painting the town red was definitely not in Cara’s brainwave when she was inspired to write the song’s lyrics – on the contrary, it’s all about people who secretly despise parties!

Moving on, Ed Sheeran’s Touch And Go which seemed like it was about to crank at Number 3, took a disappointing nosedive! The track obviously didn’t get much of an oomph because it was not included in the original track listing of the studio album x and was only added as a bonus track in the Wembley Edition released November 13, 2015. Quite a pity – I liked the ditty!

I’m over the moon to see the alternative rock pop punk track Jet Black Heart by 5 Seconds Of Summer at Number 2 though. It’s been getting rather good reviews and we finally have great hoof marks heading towards the top, away from the mainstream pop programming that’s beginning to get on everyone’s nerves! Released last December 17, 2015 from the album Sounds Good Feels Good, this Australian band seems pretty hot!

The shocking 8-point jump by DJ Snake Featuring Bipolar Sunshine with the track Middle truly amazes me! It’s the first single from the Grammy-nominated French DJ and producer and I guarantee you, this will soar to Number 1 in no time! Needless to say that he just promoted himself last Sinulog in Lifedance – this will be a super smash!

Shawn MendesI Know What You Did Last Summer continues to make its way up while slowly dropping are Roses by The Chainsmokers Featuring Rozes and Adventure Of A Lifetime by Coldplay. Stuck at Number 9 is Love Yourself by Justin Bieber Featuring Halsey.

A predicted zoomer next week – Selena Gomez with Hands To Myself so watch out for the sexiest performance by the celeb!
