2016-02-06-coldplay-reigns-wt-20

It kicked off with a triple-shot on Bootleg Gold, then topped the WT20 charts, and will climax at the Half Time Show on the Super Bowl this Sunday – indeed, it’s Coldplay all the way this weekend!

It didn’t take a rocket scientist to have figured out that Coldplay would zoom to Number 1 this week on the Weekly Top 20 Countdown. With the spectacular hike they zipped to make it up to the peak, the publicity they have been getting and the brilliant track they shaped together, it’s no surprise that Adventure Of A Lifetime is sitting pretty on the crest!

It’s a remarkable composition from the band’s seventh studio album A Head Of Dreams released in 2015. It contains a significantly different style and coming from a rock-orientated posse, it is unbelievable how this dynamic British rock group can tailor themselves to fit any music genre. The song in itself is technically disco pop, never before heard by the authoritative foursome Chris Martin, Johnny Buckland, Guy Berryman and Will Champion and it received unsurpassed commendations for their skillful diversity in music.

Up another six notches this week, we have The Chainsmokers Featuring Rozes soaring up to Number 2 so here’s an anthem that has huge potentials to make the top slot. It’s an EDM and R&B mantra from the American duo that features vocals from the recording artist Elizabeth Roze Mencel aka Rozes. Out of their debut EP, Bouquet, the Taylor Swift-resemblance was released as their second single last June with positive reviews.

Slipping down from the alp to Number 3, DNCE’s introductory track Cake By The Ocean didn’t have much of a chance to enjoy the recognition. My outright opinion: the insubstantial song just didn’t cut it anyway and frankly speaking, I can’t even make out how it managed to make its way up to Number 1!

I’m guessing Touch And Go by Ed Sheeran likes hovering around that Number 4 standing! Who I predicted would be a fearless giant is not quite as titanic as I thought! After entering into the countdown rather strong, and climbing up the chart full on, the English singer and songwriter slacked the pace this week. I’ve always believed that if you linger in a slot too long, chances are you’re caught up in a tangle so maybe Sheeran’s special Wembley Edition of x is not quite as special after all. We’ll know next week but I’m still confident it will succeed!

Also sluggishly leave-taking is Justin Bieber’s Love Yourself lingering at Number 5 in the countdown. But here’s a track that’s come in supernaturally resilient – Jet Black Heart by 5 Seconds Of Summer! Presently at Number 6 after having bolted 10 slots skyward from its debut spot last week at Number 16, the third single out of their studio album Sounds Good Feels Good released last December 17, 2015 is definitely making waves here in the islands! The alternative volcano is a welcoming variation from all the pop tracks, so anticipate it to explode at Number 1 instantly!

Also rising is I Heart MenphisHit The Quan which is up 4, Shawn MendesI Know What You Did Last Summer featuring Camilla Cabello up 6, as well as Alessia Cara’s Here up 9 this week while Meghan Trainor who made quite a trek in the previous countdown with her song Better When I’m Dancing is now down 5 to Number 10.

Out this week are Adele’s When We Were Young and Ellie Goulding’s Something In The Way You Move which we already predicted would happen when we saw them at Numbers 19 and 20 respectively last week.

This has been my update on this week’s tops – more to come next week when we see additional tracks scramble or tumble here at our very volatile Weekly Top 20 as our host Mike Solo and our producer Mike O serve you the island’s hottest music guide at Y101 Always First
