It didn’t amaze me to see Rock City featuring Adam Levine make it to Number 1 last week on the Rick Dee’s Weekly Top 40 Chart with their song Locked Away – in fact, I was dumbfounded that it didn’t get up there sooner! With that being said, it wouldn’t do this mind-blowing hit any justice if it didn’t continue up top on this week’s countdown.

Released last June 29, this reggae fusion and dancehall remix mocks up the tune of Captain & Tennille’s last number-one hit Do That To Me One More Time adding an 80s flavor to the single. Its 96 BPM tempo and the romantic lyrics draw out the magnetism to appeal to pop music lovers. Peaking at Number 6 on the Billboard Top 100 for now, it warrants Maroon 5’s lead singer, Levine, with a second highlight on the charts. Once again, nothing surprising from this multi-instrumentalist, multi-platinum award winner, multi-media artist from the City of Angels!

I’d vote this track in for another few weeks but with the Biebs coming in on overdrive, I’m not too sure if it can withstand the forces and continue at its stance; nevertheless, let’s see what Dees reports!

With Ed Sheeran’s Photograph out of the picture, Demi Lovato’s previous threat at Number 3 slipping down a notch to Number 4 making Cool For Summer shy away from the race and Selena Gomez who is sauntering her way down the exit aisle after having acquired her tiara, we have a pretty okay chance for a repeat performance!

But here’s something to be concerned about if you’re rooting for the lost star because trailing up for the hot spot is Canadian singer The Weeknd with another commercial success after reaching Number 1 on the Billboard Top 100. A bass-intensive track, The Hills is definitely captivating the market and except for a haircut this artist needs, he’s a promising big name!

As for Justin Bieber – as I mentioned before, Bieber is Bieber and of course he’ll make it up there with What Do You Mean? But, hey Rick – give me a break! Bad boy is just a little too overrated, particularly with this up-tempo kinda summery, uplifting, clear, poppy but cool (-Bieber) yet (I personally think) mawkish, self-pitying track! But anyways – getting down to the music…

Absolutely awaiting this week’s countdown with Dees’ finest, so stay stuck right here on Y101 Always First from 2 PM – 6 PM as he unveils the top tracks in the U.S.

Rick Dee’s countdown is also replayed on Wednesdays from 6 PM – 10 PM.
