It would seem that Coldplay is upset about R.E.M.’s breakup.
During the Music Midtown festival in Atlanta, GA on Friday night, Coldplay reacted to the recent news of the band’s split and covered one of their biggest hits as a tribute. During the Coldplay’s set, frontman Chris Martin addressed the crowd saying, “One of our favorite bands of all time, R.E.M., for some crazy reason have finished -- and it’s sad. So with the most respect in the world…this is just to show how much they meant to us.” Coldplay then launched into a performance of R.E.M.’s 1992 classic hit “Everybody Hurts.” R.E.M. was formed in Athens, Georgia, about 50 miles northeast of Atlanta.
Coldplay’s new album Mylo Xyloto is set to be released on October 24.
