$2 Billion MarkPDFPrintE-mail
Brad Burchards

To those of us who were able to watch Titanic back in 1997 would never have expected that the 2hr+ film would really make it big in the blockbuster office considering how a tragedy was used to create a love story between two people from different classes. The film that launched Leonardo and Kate to A-list status was by far the most expensive movie made during that time and 15 years later with the hype of movies presented in 3D, director Cameron then again capitalized on the possibility of scoring another hit by re-releasing the movie Titanic in 3D! I bet most women who fell in love with Leonardo will now flock the theaters again to see him close to lifelike in the movies back when he was still young and fit with less facial hair... yes, guys would also flock to see plump Kate in the car scene enjoying the audio and now the viewing experience.

On the centennial year of the unsinkable Titanic's sinking (nice rhyme) it has gone over the billion mark by raking in an additional 0 million which was made up of .6 million in the US domestic market and .2 million in the overseas market. Mind you, the Chinese are also suckers for a tragic love story by shoveling million in the debut of the film there putting the worldwide profit of 0.8 million! The movie now stands 2nd to Avatar (.8 billion worldwide) after the latest sales took Titanic to .03 billion adding to the original haul of .84 billion when it was released.

If Titanic was given a 3D make over, we can expect some movies to get a re-release banking on some more cash to come in once it is offered under a totally new experience. I seriously think that Hollywood has run out of good movies to make / write as the pattern now is almost similar to local movies that have the same plot and greatly is monotonous. Advantage of a Hollywood movie though is that they don't have constraints on the budget so one will never be deprived of good sets, special effects, and top of the line pre & post film production. What would you want on your 3D wish list? I personally would like a 3D version of Aliens starting from the 1st movie done to the last Aliens Vs. Predators movie.

Until that wish comes true, I'd have to first see my first 3D movie... yes, I haven't and don't plan to watch "a" movie in 3D for the experience but I want it to be "the" movie.
