For most of those who are not always kept in the loop of things especially in the world of boxing would have never known that our very PacMan is no longer the worlds pound for pound king.
Conveniently he was surpassed and replaced by the person who held the title of mouth for mouth king Mayweather who after much fanfare and obvious lack of real confidence was then elevated to the role that clearly does not suit a person of his lack of caliber.
For most veteran boxing analysts as well as those tasked in voting on whom would be the pound for pound king for a year they had pointed out to the 3rd bout between Pacquiao and Marquez in which they noted the lack of determination as well as the absence of the snap from the Filipinos punches. It's quite true that the bout did come at a controversial end when most people even Filipinos had doubted the end result. Many stories came up as to what had transpired before the bout itself, petty family squabbles brought on by tabloids, problems in the training camp, etc... Simply put it was just not the best show that our pride could have put up.
Now, PacMan is gearing up for his next bout against undefeated American Timothy Bradley on the 9th of June. With focus as a main issue now that he is hounded by allegations of not paying taxes, can we be sure that he will be totally 100% in his upcoming fight? Gone were the days when he can merely focus on press cons and training before a bout, for now he has to juggle with his seat as a congressman to his constituents as well as stave off people who will stop at nothing to get to him. Primary concern that may derail his mindset in his bout is the pending case from the BIR which has already cost him his clean image as well as a good number of endorsements that have pulled out. A few million dollars may not put a dent in his huge bank account but as he well knows that once he hangs up his gloves there is almost not much left for him to do but to wither away into time.
With all that's been said, this writer still has a huge respect towards the PacMan regardless of what controversies may arise. Proving to oneself and to others that poverty is never a hindrance to attaining ones dreams is no ordinary feat. Temptations will always be in the way of life but its how one overcomes those said obstacles that proves how strong one is.
