CESAFI opens its 12th season

The 12^th season of the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (CESAFI) is off to a rousing start.

            The opening ceremonies held at the Cebu Coliseum last July 29 once again featured the best of the various member schools, who did not only parade their athletes, but also performed various numbers in the traditional Palabas.

            The CESAFI, which is Cebu’s premiere inter-school league does not only have competitions in basketball, but also in other sports as well as in academic and cultural disciplines.

            The member schools of the CESAFI are Cebu Doctors’ University, Cebu Eastern College, Cebu Institute of Technology-University, Don Bosco Technology Center, Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu, Southwestern University, University of Cebu, University of San Carlos, University of San Jose-Recoletos, University of Southern Philippines-Foundation, University of the Visayas, and Velez College.

            The schools also paraded their muses, who vied for the title of Miss CESAFI secondary and collegiate divisions.

            Kimberly Cummins of CIT-U was named Miss CESAFI Secondary division while Beatrice Luigi Gomez of USJ-R won the collegiate division title.

            The Palabas featured dances of various genre presented by students from the different member schools.

            The CESAFI season starts with the basketball tournament, but other events like football, volleyball, athletics, and others will also be held soon.

            The competitions are for the secondary and collegiate divisions only.

            Recently, some member schools, which were once known as the minnows in the basketball event, underwent a major build up and are now major forces to reckon with.

            Schools like CEC and SHS-AdC, which used to be the whipping boys of the league, have become the big-winning squads that have trashed their first opponents this season.

            Games of the CESAFI basketball event are played at the Cebu Coliseum.

Participants got a chance to meet those from other schools and exchange pleasantries during the opening rites.
