Meet Mark Cortes, Carlo Villarica, Jeremy Lim and Jason Almendras, all coming from different backgrounds and interests, but united by music. It started out in the year 2007 when the guys found themselves recording originally composed songs inside their bedrooms. With no plans of promoting, they woke up one day hearing their songs – even topping indie countdowns in major radio stations around the city – on mainstream radio.
Rescue A Hero’s music is primarily influenced by everyday life with lyrical folk based songs with a hint of blues, jazz, hip-hop, science and everything in between. Now that’s a refresher – knowing that we live in an era bombarded by monotony and similarly sounding tunes that we hear from different indie bands on myspace and all social networking media – or wherever musicians nowadays post their materials for a large audience to easily access.
I first fell in-love with this band when I heard them sing Marry Me.
You will love the sarcasm painted all over their lyrics. On stage, you might think Mark’s a lunatic with his out-of-proportion antics, but that’s exactly what sets them apart from the independent music bandwagon. They don’t just play music and sing their songs, they give you a show – and they have remarkably gained recognition, emerging as one of the most popular bands in Cebu’s indie rock music scene.
