A few months back we had featured this town down South for its delicacies and unique offerings to the rest of Cebu as well to foreign tourists.
Now we go back to Argao to check on what other things it has to offer to visitors of this bustling town. Knowing that this week is Holy Week, those who find it tiresome to rub elbows with other people who are heading out to the beaches might want to take in some other form of relaxation such as walking (hiking), jogging, or sight seeing soaking some lush greenery and local heritage.
Simple pursuits that can be done within the vicinity of Argao‘s Poblacion and its barangays. A walk around Don Gil, a long stretch of road going to Argao Nature Park is perfect for an early morning or late afternoon jog or walk or even picnics. Families can also enjoy watching the sunrise or the sunset. The Argao Narure Park is a perfect destination for a quiet time. You can walk under big trees or sit by the lagoon area while watching different birds.
If you want to escape the noise in the city with a tight budget, Argao Nature Park is a recommended place. With an entrance fee of only P5.00, you will enjoy the forest feel of the place and a perfect place to unwind at the same time. The place is redolent of a forest with a modern touch. For added adventure, you may enjoy wall climbing for only P 10.00 pesos per climb. There also is the zip line, though the ride isn’t that high nor long (good for the faint hearted), it’s enough to kick your heart.
You can also check out the Riverstone Castle, considered to be the only authentic castle in Cebu. The castle was made of stones collected from the nearby river and was constructed using authentic castle-building procedures. You can enjoy the pool, firing range for the hobbyist, a mini-zoo for nature lovers and a great bar for wine and pizza. Another best thing to do when in Argao is to take a walk around the pueblo. The main Poblacion in Argao remains one of the reminders of Spanish influence in Cebu. There you will find San Miguel Archangel Parish Church and Convent, the Church Plaza, the site of the former Palacio, Morgue/Chapel.
If you seek more adventure when you’re town for a visit, then a trip to the Argao/Lantoy National Park is a must. Argao’s highest peak, Mt. Lantoy adventure includes the Usmad River-trekking, Bugusok Falls and the Balay sa Agta visit. Aside from all those mentioned, there are much to do in Argao for a day or two.
Argao can be reached by bus ride in more or less 2 hours. Travel time can be cut down to less than 2 hours with a private vehicle. Buses bound to Argao leaves the South Bus Terminal in Cebu City at 15-minute interval. One’s in Argao, tricycles, trisikads, jeepneys or habal-habal can be use to roam around, otherwise, walking will surely take off some unwanted pounds off.
