In an unexpected turn of events, Eddie Murphy quite as the host for the coming Oscar Awards a day after Brett Ratner resigned as the event's producer.
Ratner had stepped down after a homophobic slur he made during a movie question and answer session a few weeks back and now Murphy who was signed on by Ratner is following suit. A statement released by Murphy stated that he had understood and supported the decision to the change of producers for the Academy Awards ceremony and was truly looking forward to being a part of the show with Ratner's group but provided no apologies nor sufficient explanation to the sudden exit only saying that the new production team and host will do an equally great job.
Academy president Tom Sherak responded to the new by saying that he appreciate how Eddie feels about losing his creative partner Ratner and wishing him all the best. The award giving body is expected to make an announcement on the replacement host in the next few days. I was really looking forward to seeing Eddie Murphy host the Oscars on February 2012 and this news dampens the energy that is expected but one can never question loyalty or friendship that bonds people together. It is admirable that Ratner had tried to save the show from being dragged to his fiasco but it is also a waste of good talent leaving the show hanging from an exit of a good producer / director and host. But the show does go on, and we expect that the academy will not fall short of giving the audience one hell of a show.
