As what I have written about earlier, Y101FM has two coffee people.

One is Jiggy, yes we all know that, and the other one is *drum rolls* the man behind the www.y101fm.com—The Web Admin. I had time to talk to the Web Admin, and asked him frankly about his coffee.

He couldn’t say that his coffee is better than Jiggy’s since it depends on the person drinking it. For example, your mom’s home cooked meal will always taste best and yes, that means it is better than the meal you had in a fancy restaurant, a ratatouille—a taste that brings you happy memories. He says that if Jiggy is happy with his coffee, then that’s good, since it is the ultimate objective—to make someone happy with something.

The web admin doesn’t check the taste of the coffee as what most would look for, he shares that he looks for one with a unique character. The best coffee he ever had was “guatemala SO, full city ++ roast, normale pull, pre-infused for 6 seconds with 3 bar pressure then at 9.5 bar pressure for 26 seconds”. That was difficult for me to decode, but I will have further understanding to this soon.

The web admin began the coffee addiction when he was in college. He said that he used to have instant coffee mixed with coke which I cannot imagine how it tastes. Maybe coffee lovers have different palates? He also says that you don’t warn yourself about bad coffees, but instead, prioritize the good coffees to look out for. Make sure you know the roast date, and that it doesn’t pass a month post-roasting.

There are two kinds of beans—Arabica and Robusta. Robusta contains high acidity and caffeine, while arabica is far less of then those, arabica has very high aromatics. “It’s your choice,” he adds.

I asked if he would want to challenge Jiggy for a coffee match, and he told me that it isn’t a match if there will be any. It would be more of a coffee-tasting party where Jiggy can bring his coffee and the web admin bring his—they brew and compare each other’s palates.

Well it looks like we will be having a coffee-tasting party soon here in the station! I cannot wait to have a deep conversation about his coffee so that I could actually see them counter each other (Yes, I am mean) and have different points clash. . . . In a friendly manner, of course.
