There’s this attitude of Filipinos which is very prevalent and degrading.

It was a normal afternoon. I was heading to work and people are just getting by. When I was near Gaisano Country mall, I noticed the jam on the Taxi Lane which delayed me since the taxi I was on couldn’t go forward. I went down to see it and to my dismay, the Taxi lane was filled with Jeepneys – empty Jeepneys – looking for passengers, the conductors taking all the time calling the people, passengers or not, to ride their jeepney. Confused, I asked the guard if it was the new loading and unloading area and the guard’s reply was “yes”. My eyes widened since it was clearly a taxi lane and the sign “NO STOPPING ANYTIME” was very clear so I pointed out the sign and asked the guard again. He finally then said “We told them already ma’am, but they just won’t listen…. They are very hard-headed”.

The guard’s answer left me speechless; so I just shook my head and went to work. I still wasn’t at peace with it so I got a camera and went back to the taxi lane where the jeepneys where still there. I observed for ten minutes and none left. They just kept on screaming “a few more people and we’ll go!” I took a pictures of the mess.

Who’s to blame? If I’d ask them they’ll tell me for sure that it’s the government’s fault or something but that clearly wasn’t the case. What did I see? Irresponsible people. This is why the country is in a sad state. It’s because of the people’s attitude. You can see how the guard did nothing because they wouldn’t listen, and how the jeepneys felt so confident by not following rules.

It doesn’t only apply to guards and jeepneys drivers, it also applies to most of the civilians. It’s sad how we respectfully form a line and wait for our turn to get a taxi while other people cut the lines. One time, a guard caught people trying to get our taxi and what happened when the guard told them that we were the rightful ones? They got mad. Amazing right?

A Japanese friend told me it was different in Japan. People feel guilty if they cut lines, or not follow rules. It’s not because of their harsh punishments when they stray off the law; they just do not have the guts to violate or cheat other. It’s not in their system to do so. What happened to the Filipinos? Even kids at the internet shop, they prefer to have cheats rather than finish a game honestly. They are even proud that they know the cheat!

I am not saying that all Filipinos are like that, I still see SOME good people falling in line honestly, offering a seat to an elderly person and they are outnumbered by the people with the common Filipino attitude.

I hope this disappears soon.
