15th Thirsty Football Cup

The Thirsty Football Cup is kicking off its 15th year tournament and festival this weekend (February 23, 24, and 25, 2018) to be held again at the Cebu City Sports Complex.

During a press launch held yesterday at Shaka Hawaiian Restaurant, the organizers of the Thirsty Football Cup announced that a total of 234 teams from all over the Philippines (93 out of town teams and 17 schools) are joining this year’s tournament.

Started in 2003, the Thirsty Football Cup has since become an annual fixture of sports entertainment in Cebu and helped popularized football in the province.

Organizers Neil Montesclaros, Bunny Pages, and John Pages expressed their joy for having successfully run the tournament for 15 years. Montesclaros said they “feel proud [of the achievement]”. They thought the Thirsty Football Cup “was just a one-time thing back in 2003, then [they] decided to do it every year since then.” Bunny Pages, for his part, conveyed his gratitude at how the brand has gotten stronger over the years. “It’s really an expression of our commitment for sports and for the healthy way of life”, Mr. Pages added.

The organizers also revealed that a new feature will be added to this year’s festival. They announced the UV Pep Squad will give a special cheer dance performance to hype up this year’s Cup. “Something different apart from purely football”, said Mr. Montesclaros.
