A 120-foot typhoon-resilient tree was lit last evening, December 1, 2014 at Fuente Osmeña Circle.

I did not get the chance to see the actual lighting of the tree because I did not want to be stuck in the traffic and I live far away however, I did manage to get some sources and ask questions to some people who were there.

The Christmas tree was supposed to be lit by 6 PM but the actual lighting started late at 8PM. Like the years that passed, the Christmas tree lighting was also celebrated with speeches and programs and the other most awaited part instead of the lighting- the fireworks display.

The place was crowded with people from everywhere celebrating with joy and not to mention the very heavy traffic as an effect of that overcrowding.

The Christmas tree’s design was made to resemble how the pine trees in Baguio look like and was made a lot sturdier because they did not want it to be uprooted in case a store comes. Last year’s Christmas tree was taken down by the disastrous Yolanda and they do not want that to happen with this Christmas tree.

The Christmas tree lighting did not happen only here in Cebu but also all over the Philippines and the world too. It is a celebration to start the Yuletide Season.

A budget of 1 million Pesos was allocated by M Lhullier Pawnshop.

The Christmas tree design was done by
Bernardino “Nonoy” Adiong who have been doing so for the past 15 years.
