From how I saw it, Chappie was a very underrated movie.

It wasn’t promoted much and many people weren’t too hyped to watch it. To be honest, I had low expectations.  I only watched this movie because of Dev Patel, Yolandi Visser and Ninja of Die Antwoord. However, it turned out that the movie was really good and it wasn’t just because of the people I mentioned earlier. Chappie was a great movie with a great story.

As a person fascinated or even obsessed with artificial intelligence, Chappie is something I can recommend to people who are into science fiction and great stories. You do not have to be a geek to understand this movie. Chappie is easy for the mind but very deep for the heart.

Yolandi and Ninja added the colors to the movie. If they weren’t there, Chappie would be difficult to watch since it would be dull and too “mechanic”. Also, the fact that Chappie was child-like and had to learn a lot of things made this movie emotionally appealing. Despite the lack of a face, you get to feel how Chappie feels and actually get attached to him as the movie progresses.

I do not know why other reviews gave this movie a low rate. The movie was one of the best I have seen. It was simple and emotional. Chappie being raised in a dysfunctional family of gangsters and confused of which is right and wrong. Those elements were already a story of its own; delete the battle scenes and it would still be a great movie.

Some of the viewers might be turned off by the accent but I recommend you to give it some time and enough, you’ll get used to it.

Chappie is a movie I would recommend to everyone who has an open mind and anyone who loves the concept of artificial intelligence. The movie is not great for kids though since the language used isn’t too child-friendly.  Chappie is like a fairy tale for adults. It touched my insides and made me shed a tear or two… nah, I actually cried.
