What is Baye-BayeImage Source: blogspot.com

During the All Soul’s Day holidays, our relatives from Negros Island came to visit us here in Cebu and they brought with them some pasalubong snacks including the baye-baye. I brought some to work today and was surprised that none of my co-workers know what baye-baye was.

It was the first time any of them tasted baye-baye and each of them said it was delicious. So I told them what it was and I think the whole world should know as well.

Baye -baye (pronounced phonetically) comes from Western Visayas. It is made up of glutinous rice (or malagkit or pilit). grated young coconut and ground corn kernel. It is among the popular delicacies in places like Ilo-Ilo and Negros.

Baye-baye can be eaten by itself or paired with coffee or soda. It is well loved throughout the Visayas and so if you haven’t tried it yet, it’s time that you should.
