Our morning DJ Jiggy Jr broke out the news this morning and paid tribute to his favorite artist by playing his songs on Friday Gold Rush.

Tribute Prince

Prince Rogers Nelson, famously known as just Prince has sadly passed away this morning. For over nearly four decades, he became such a huge icon in music. His sound is a combination of pop, funk, rock, hip-hop, and soul. A musical genius and talented songwriter; Prince was an extremely prolific artist, having released several hundred songs both under his own name and under pseudonyms and/or pen names, as well as writing songs which have been recorded by other artists. He would usually play all the instruments himself when goes on to record an album.

Due to his success and influence, the artist was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2004. In his lifetime, he won seven Grammy’s, a Golden Globe, and an Academy Award for Best Original Song Score for the movie Purple Rain (1984) which he also starred in.

Prince was also a movie director. He directed three movies in the 80’s, namely Under the Cherry Moon, Sign O’ the Times, and Graffiti Bridge.

Prince was also somewhat of an eccentric figure. Sometimes he would go on stage with a little bit of heels and is commonly known as the rocker who wears purple. In the 90’s he changed his name to an unpronounceable symbol which would people read as The Artist Formerly Known as Prince, he later changed his name back to just Prince in the 2000s.

His famous songs include When Doves Cry, Kiss, 1999, Little Red Corvette, and Purple Rain.
