“We are No. 2 on Billboard. I don’t think I can remain anonymous for that much longer. It was fun while it lasted. Very fun."

The 7 Years Danish singer and his group are living the American dream now. As their singles are topping charts in Europe and Australia, their success in the U.S. has also been starting to blow up. With the success of his singles and a nearly sold-out North American tour, the 27 year old singer from Denmark is pretty much been immensely overwhelmed.

“I’ve always wanted to release records in America. That’s where I believe the music belongs and the style and the eclectic musical mix that we put together kind of belongs here,” Lukas Graham Forchhammer said in an interview with the Associated Press.

His emotional pop ballad 7 Years is current at number 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 and he and his band were number 1 in the Billboard Twitter Emerging Artist list.

Forchhammer credits his upbringing in Copenhagen’s diverse hippie culture for his eclectic sound.

“Listening to all these different musical genres from all over the world and listening to my father’s record collection, the Irish folk influences from home. Of course they’re all in there somewhere hiding within the lyrics and melodies. But rap music was the biggest influence on my way of writing and my performing,”

His American success may have overwhelmed him but Forchhamer said that he has no interest in fame.

“If it was up to me, it would be nice not ever to get stopped on the street because we just do music. I didn’t do this to become a celebrity,”
