Back in 2014, during the 86th Academy Awards, Ellen DeGeneres took a group selfie with several famous celebrities that include Bradley Cooper, Jared Leto, Jennifer Lawrence, Kevin Spacey, Julia Roberts, Meryl Streep, Angelina Jolie, Brad Pitt, Channing Tatum, and Lupita Nyong’o. Ellen tweeted the picture which initially crashed Twitter. Eventually, the famous selfie tweet was retweeted over 3.4 million times, becoming the most retweeted Tweet in history.

However, in 2017, Twitter user Carter Wilkerson surpassed the feat by having his tweet about getting free chicken nuggets to 3.6 million retweets! Wilkerson’s screengrab of a thread he made with fast food chain Wendy’s was retweeted 3.6 million times. The goal is to hit 18 million.
