Game of Thrones’ wasn’t nominated at the EmmysImage Source: files.wordpress.com

Yesterday, the 69th Primetime Emmy Awards was held where the dystopian Hulu series The Handmaid’s Tale - the first web series to win the award for Outstanding Drama Series – took home the most awards.

Host Stephen Colbert mentioned in his opening monologue that if anyone would win, they should not forget to “thank everyone who helped you get up here — namely, “Game of Thrones” for not being eligible.”

So why wasn’t the show nominated in the first place? Is it because the TV Academy was still upset at GoT producers and writers for killing off Hodor? Not really. They simply didn’t make it to the deadline. To be considered for the 2017 awards, a show must premiere between June 1, 2016 and May 31, 2017.

Game of Thrones’ season 6 premiered on April 26, 2016, therefore it wasn’t eligible for consideration. Season seven however qualifies for the 2018 awards following its delay to July 16 this year, so we’ll have to wait until then for the huge scale battles to bag some gongs.
