New Marvel Comic Book Cover Inspired by Beyoncé’s ‘Formation’ - blogged by @MsJennyb It’s been almost a year, to the day, since #Beyoncé released the unofficial “black girl anthem,” titled “Formation,” as the lead single off her sixth studio album, #Lemonade. The song, along with the music video, embraced the strength, beauty and resilience of black women. Not only did the song and video highlight black culture in all it’s glory, it addressed police brutality, racism and referenced the 2005 Hurricane Katrina disaster. One year later, the song is still a fan favorite and the video has inspired Marvel to create a new comic book cover in the Queen’s honor. According to TIME, the artist released a first look at an upcoming cover for the latest “America” comic book. Illustrated by Joe Quinones, the cover pays tribute to Beyoncé’s iconic final look of the video. The forthcoming comic focuses on the journey of America Chavez, an LGBTQ teenager with special powers. On the cover, Chavez is pictured in a top hat, off-the-shoulder dress and accessories that resemble Beyoncé in the final scene.
