The Eagles sue Hotel California

The 70’s rock band is suing a hotel called ‘Hotel California’ in Mexico.

The Eagles are reportedly suing a Mexican hotel called the Hotel California this week. Why? Because the hotel copied their name off the famous Eagles song.

Not only that, the band filed a complaint arguing arguing that the hotel – which is situated in Baja California Sur, Mexico – “actively encourages” guests to believe that their establishment is in some way connected with the band.

The lawsuit also alleged that the hotel owners constantly play ‘Hotel California’ and other Eagles songs each time a guest comes in. According to the Eagles, the hotel has also convinced their guests that their building was the inspiration for the famous 1976 song.

The lawsuit is seeking a “variety of damages and a halt to any infringement”, according to a report from Reuters

A new report suggests that the hotel was originally named Hotel California in 1950 – long before the Eagles track was released in 1976. However, the hotel went through a series of name changes before changing back to its original name from 2001.
